March 15, 2024 (Campo) -- Want to learn about the colorful lives (and deaths) of some of the early settlers in the Campo area? The Mountain Empire Historical Society (MEHS), a 501c3 organization, will provide 2 ½ to 3 hour long guided tours of three private historic cemeteries: the Milquatay Pioneer Cemetery (see photo left), the Old Campo Cemetery, and the Ortega Cemetery at 9 a.m. on Saturday, April 6th and then again at 9 a.m. on Sunday, April 14th.

These tours will be led by Cherry Diefenbach, a local historian and the author of May They Rest in Peace. This is a MEHS fundraiser, and the tours will cost $25 for a MEHS member and $35 for a non-member. To ensure your place on a tour, a pre-paid reservation must be received NLT Monday, April 1, 2024. For more information and to obtain a cemetery tour reservation form, please contact MEHS President, Larry Johnson at aljcampo@msn.com or call him at 619-478-5566.
