September 21, 2023 (El  Cajon) – A homeless man with an extensive criminal record has been arrested for attempting to rob a 73-year-old man. The victim was jogging near Mollison Ave. and Greenfield Dr. on Sept.15 at 11:09 a.m.  when the suspect demanded five dollars. He then “threatened to “tase” the man, grabbed onto his arm, and reached for his wallet,” says Lieutenant Jeremiah Larson, public information officer with El Cajon Police.

The man fought off his attacker and ran toward an apartment complex yelling for help.

The suspect ran after the man, until he realized the police were called. He then ran away.

The victim provided a suspect description. Officers found Ian Farmer, a 41-year-old transient from San Diego, nearby.  After the victim identified Farmer as the man who attacked and attempted to rob him, Farmer was arrested.

Farmer is a registered sex offender and has a lengthy arrest history including theft, vandalism, domestic violence, and sex with a minor, Lt. Larson says.

Anyone with additional information regarding this incident is encouraged to contact the El Cajon Police Department at (619) 579-3311.  Individuals with information who wish to remain anonymous can call the Crime Stoppers tip line at (888) 580-8477
