May 13, 2026 (La Mesa) — A 22-year-old San Diego man is behind bars facing an attempted homicide charge following his arrest early Thursday morning in connection with a violent assault in La Mesa last month.
Alexsis Moreno-Magana was taken into custody at about 1:32 a.m. near the intersection of Kettner Boulevard and Broadway by the Santa Fe Depot in downtown San Diego.
The arrest was the result of a joint effort between the San Diego Police Department and San Diego Metropolitan Transit System officers, who located Moreno-Magana a week after the initial attack.
La Mesa Police Department detectives responded to the downtown scene to take Moreno-Magana into custody. He has since been booked into the San Diego County Jail on a charge of attempted homicide.
The arrest stems from an April 30 assault that left a victim in critical condition. Moreno allegedly assaulted a 38-year-old woman who was found unconscious and bleeding from the head in the 8200 block of Parkway Drive in La Mesa. According to police, the victim remains hospitalized and is still fighting for their life.
While an arrest has been made, investigators are still working to determine the motive behind the attack.
The LMPD continues to seek witnesses. Anyone who was in the area at the time of the April 30 incident or who has information regarding the assault is asked to contact the department at (619) 667-1400.
