READERS’ EDITORIAL: THE TRUTH ABOUT THE CITY’S “RETIREMENT” ISSUES

“If the current City retirement system is allowed to change, and the politicians then rape the retirement fund (like they did to Social Security) the citizens of San Diego will be in for massive financial problems in the form of unfunded liabilities.”
 
 
May 7, 2012 (San Diego)–I am a retired San Diego City firefighter and have followed the City’s "retirement problem" since its genesis in the early 2000’s. Very little of what is currently being disseminated is factual, and hopefully this letter will enlighten you so that others can also learn from your knowledge.  

If the current City retirement system is allowed to change, and the politicians then rape the retirement fund (like they did to Social Security) the citizens of San Diego will be in for massive financial problems in the form of unfunded liabilities. Yes it will take years for those problems to manifest themselves but just like Social Security, it will happen.

 
Some facts that most citizens have not been told:  
 
I am nobody special, I am just a retired City employee who has followed the lies and misconceptions regarding the retirement system shortfall since it began.
