Sample fare from many of the La Mesa area’s finest restaurants and food while savoring an East County evening complete with music, food and drinks. The event will to be held at the La Mesa Community Center 4975 Memorial Drive in La Mesa from 5:30 to 8:00 p.m.

June 14, 2009 (La Mesa)--This evening marks the opening of La Mesa's "Sundays at Six" summer concert series, which run June 14 through July 25. Bring a picnic dinner and groove to the sounds of jazz, country, concert bands and variety music at the free concerts, which will be held at Harry Griffen Park, 9550 Milden Street in La Mesa from 6 to 7 p.m.

La Mesa Dentist Jeff Gray has been chosen by PEOPLE Magazine and Major League Baseball as one of three finalists for the “All-Stars Among Us” campaign to represent the Padres at the All Star Game in July. To win, Gray has to receive your vote.

June 1, 2009 (La Mesa) -- Step back in time to those lazy, crazy carefree ‘50s days at the La Mesa Village Back to the 50s Car Show. The event runs every Thursday evening between June 4th and August 27th.

This Summer Event draws more than 2,500 spectators. Classic cars line La Mesa Boulevard and compete in the weekly contest. The car show runs from 5 to 8 p.m. Visitors can also enjoy live music with DJ Jumpin' Jack Flash, shopping and dining every Thursday night until 9 pm in the Village.

The Dr. William C. Herrick Community Health Care Library in La Mesa, a public library specializing in health research information, has announced it is hosting a display of 20 charcoal drawings drawn by persons who have developmental disabilities from Sophie's Art Gallery, an art program provided by St. Madeleine Sophie's Center, a non-profit based in El Cajon.

May 10, 2009 (La Mesa) La Mesa’s City Council will consider adopting a “Hate Free La Mesa” Declaration at its meeting on Tuesday, May 12th at 4 p.m.The measure has been presented by a member of United for Hate Free San Diego, a coalition of 52 faith-based and community organizations county-wide.

April 9, 2009 (San Diego’s East County)—The 73rd edition of Carson & Barnes Circus will bring nearly 100 performers and a traveling zoo to East County in April, with proceeds helping to benefit local hosts. “From time to time, special opportunities take place that benefit everyone,” says Valerie Harrison, president of the Rancho San Diego-Jamul Chamber of Commerce, which is sponsoring the circus performances at Skyline Church in Rancho San Diego/La Mesa on April 27 and 28 at 4:30 and 7:30.

The new "It's 5'clock Somewhere Party" includes transformation of a downtown warehouse into an inland "beach" paradise complete with tiki bar, Hawaiian food and music by Shipwrecked, a Jimmy Buffet-style band. Also this weekend, community members are invited to turn out for a Community Mural Project and "River Blitz," both hosted by the San Diego River Park Foundation. Need a laugh?

February 10, 2009 (La Mesa)--The day after two pedestrians were robbed at gunpoint by a masked man, Antonio Rattler (photo), a 20 year old from La Mesa,was arrested for the robberies by the La Mesa Police Department.

On February 9, 2009, in the late evening hours, a masked man armed with a gun robbed two pedestrians within thirty minutes of each other in the Parkway Drive/Fletcher Parkway area of La Mesa. Police checked the area at the time but did not locate the suspect.

February 1, 2009 (La Mesa) -- As part of La Mesa's commitment to staying in touch with the community, the City Council has scheduled two Town Hall Meetings for 2009. These open forum meetings provide an opportunity for citizens to provide input on issues in their neighborhood and throughout the City. The two meetings are held in different parts of the City to give all residents a chance to participate. The City Council encourages all who are interested in the present and future of La Mesa to attend and provide their ideas, comments, and opinions.
