Its performing arts curriculum integrates drama, singing and choreography tailored specifically for children, youth and adults with challenges. According to the AWO, website, the goal is to provide a vital outlet for inventiveness and socialization, helping to dismantle learning barriers and other risk factors that can jeopardize personal success.
The roots of the nonprofit go back to 2008, when the owners of for-profit Arts in Motion envisioned a program born entirely out of their personal family experience of a child with special needs.
They dreamed of creating free arts classes tailored specifically to the special needs community; by 2010, Arms Wide Open officially transitioned into a 501(c)(3) nonprofit.
It currently provides individuals with social opportunities and creative outlets that enhance their overall quality of life.
