East County News Service

May 8, 2026 (El Cajon) – A 39-year-old woman is in custody following a stabbing on Prince Street that led to a police pursuit across Interstate 8 the morning of Wednesday, May 6

The incident began around 11:20 a.m. when El Cajon police officers responded to reports of an assault in the 1000 block of Prince Street. Upon arrival, they located an adult female victim with multiple stab wounds to her torso and arm. The victim was treated at the scene and subsequently transported to a local hospital.

According to the El Cajon Police Department, the suspect fled the scene on foot before officers arrived. Using a department drone, an operator located a woman matching the suspect’s description running across the lanes of Interstate 8. The drone operator maintained visual contact, guiding ground units to her position.

When officers attempted to detain the suspect, she reportedly fled while still armed with a knife. Officers used a Taser to subdue her and take her into custody. Police identified the woman as Veronica Flores.

ECPD reported that during her transport to jail, Flores assaulted a police officer, causing an injury.

Flores was booked into the Las Colinas Women’s Detention Facility in Santee and faces several felony charges.

The motive for the attack remains under investigation.
