June 17, 2018 (Santee) – Activists in Santee are spending Father’s Day gathering signatures on two petitions on issues impacting Santee and Mission Trails Regional Park areas.
The first aims to put the Santee General Plan Initiative on the ballot to require voter approval of development projects larger than the general plan currently allows. The second calls on the California Public Utilities Commission to halt SDG&E’s proposed gas pipeline. Click links in this paragraph to read ECM’s prior articles on these issues. Below are details on where you can find petition gathers and rallies:

One Response
No one living in our beautiful county wants a fracked natural gas pipeline running through our park or our community. I rode my bicycle down to the rally and it was gratifying to see how many people were there to stand up like David against Goliath aka SDG&E/ Sempra – ON FATHER’S DAY! All those dads would rather have been kicking back watching a game and drinking a beer. But they showed up to voice their opposition to SDG&E’s latest boondoggle. One of the popular chants of the day was “How do we spell GREED? SDG&E!” Let’s get real here. The reason we live in San Diego is because of the weather, the beauty and the wide variety of recreational options. Mission Trails Regional Park, where we go to hike, bike, meditate, fish, run, and scale mountains, is poised to become the largest urban park in the nation. Why on Earth would anyone want to devastate its ecosystem and create a disaster scenario right up the middle of it with a gas pipeline? Think San Bruno. Heck, think Hillcrest just a few short months ago when the entire community was exiled from their homes because a construction worker poked a hole in the gas line there. It was lucky nobody died. Human error and wildfire are constant X Factors. No to this ill-begotten plan. Write to the CPUC today and tell them you don’t think it’s a good idea to have a fracked gas pipeline running through our wildfire-prone park and community. And that you don’t want to be stuck with the $639 million bill to ratepayers. EMAIL your letter TODAY to the Commissioner President Michael Picker at mp6@cpuc.ca.gov and to the CPUC at public.advisor@cpuc.ca.gov
The CPUC meets on June 21st to make their decision.
