July 11, 2016 (San Diego) – Today’s Home Run Derby at Petco Park had it all; from former Padre Dave Winfield throwing out the ceremonial first pitch to Wil Myers’ little brother Beau throwing him pitches, it proved that All-Star Week was off to a great start.

Myers went up against Cincinnati Reds slugger Adam Duvall in the quarterfinals.  In his first Derby appearance, Myers launched his first two pitches out of the park, but cooled off a bit later in his at-bat.  He just barely made it to double-digits with 10 home runs with none over 440 feet, so he didn’t get a 30 second bonus.  Unfortunately, he was eliminated when Duvall passed him by hitting one more homer to advance to the semi-finals 11-10 over Myers.

Chicago White Sox slugger and last year’s Home Run Derby champion Todd Frazier and Miami Marlins phenom and Socal native Giancarlo Stanton took center stage for the finals.  Stanton blew Frazier out of the water with 20 home runs to be crowned the 2016 Home Run Derby champ.  Stanton launched a Derby record of 61 homers.

The All-Star Game will be tomorrow at 5:00 p.m. on Fox.
