ACTIVITIES FOR SENIORS

 

RAY AND JOAN KROC CORPS COMMUNITY CENTER, on University Avenue just west of La Mesa,  offers activities, events and outings for seniors through the Life Options Program including computer skills, “senior sneakers” fitness classes, a swim club, arts, healthy lifestyle classes and more.  The Center has a heated therapy pool, many recreational activities, plus mentoring/teaching opportunities for seniors to assist kids and share life experiences with others in our community.  Scholarships are available to low-income seniors for memberships, classes and lessons.  For more info, call Jean Stein, (619)269-1424 or e-mail jean.stein@usw.salvationarmy.org.

LA MESA:

The City of La Mesa offers many senior events as well as a calendar of senior events throughout East County and beyond.  Check the AEC monthly bulletin at this site for an excellent list of senior activities including excursions to casinos, amusement parks, and out-of-town trips. LA MESA ADULT ENRICHMENT CENTER

Activities at the La Mesa Adult Enrichment Center (AEC) include a broad range of individual and group services and activities for active senior adults, as well as access to many other community resources and agencies serving senior citizens. Activities and services include educational, recreational, social and cultural events, daily nutrition and other food programs, day and extended day trips, financial assistance, legal aide, information and referral, health screenings, exercise and dance. Currently scheduled activities can be found in the AEC's monthly bulletin. La Mesa also has a new Rides4Neighbors program, a volunteer-based service for La Mesa residents age 65 and older and disabled persons unable to use public transit.    Rides4Neighbors is a volunteer-based transportation program for La Mesa residents age 65 and older and disabled persons unable to use public transit.  Request your ride at least one week in advance of your trip date; new callers should allow even more time in order to process your initial application.
