June 1, 2023 (Santee) – Roselee Bartolacci, 32, was found unresponsive in her cell shortly after midnight on May 29 at the Las Colinas Detention facility in Santee.

Despite immediate live-saving efforts by deputies,  medical staff and paramedics, she was pronounced dead at the scene.

She was the sixth person to die in custody locally this year and the second fatality since January 1st at Las Colinas.  Last year, a record 19 people died in custody in San Diego County, despite numerous steps taken aimed at reducing jaildeaths.

“We extend our sympathies to the Bartolacci family and those affected by her death. A Sheriff's Family Liaison Officer will support the family who have been notified, as they deal with the loss of a loved one,” said Lieutenant Scott Roller.

Bartolacci was arrested on April 6, by the San Diego County Sheriff's Department and she was booked into the Vista Detention Facility.  She was charged with assault with a deadly weapon. On April 7, 2023, she was transferred to Las Colinas.

Sheriff's Homicide investigators are investigating the death and the Citizen’s Law Enforcement Review Board has also been notified and respondedto the scene.

As is the protocol for all in-custody deaths, the Sheriff's Homicide Unit responded and will conduct a thorough investigation. The cause and manner of death will be determined by the Medical Examiner's Office.
