SDSU comes up short against the Hornets

March 10, 2017 (San Diego) - The San Diego State women’s tennis team could not get past Sacramento State, falling 4-3 at the Aztec Tennis Center.

In doubles play, Jana Buth and Paola Diaz took down Hornets duo A. Loaiza Esquivias and Sofia Gulnova, 6-3. Kennedy Davis and Mia Smith struggled against Karina Vrylan and Andie Mouzes, falling 6-3, and Alli Valk and Olivia Larsson were unable to pass up C Chernyetski and Sofia Wicker, 6-4, and Sac State claimed the doubles point.

 

In singles play, the Aztecs claimed the first three matches as Davis blanked Chernyetski, 6-0, 6-0, Diaz took down Vrylan, 6-3, 6-1, and Smith stopped Mouzes, 6-3, 6-4. The final three singles matchups fell in the Hornets’ favor, as Gulnova defeated Valk, 6-4, 6-2, Wicker slid past Acer, 6-3, 6-4, and Loaiza Esquivias edged Buth, 7-5, 7-6 (5), giving Sac State a victory.

 

Following today’s loss, the Aztecs fall to 5-10 on the season. Up next, SDSU welcomes Yale on Monday, March 13, at 2 p.m. at the Aztec Tennis Center.
