July 5, 2014 (San Diego)-- Caltrans highway workers will be working at the connector ramp from westbound Interstate 8 (I-8) to northbound Interstate 5 (I-5) weekdays and weeknights for a two-week period beginning Monday, July 7.   All night work will take place from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.

The connector ramp will close nightly through to Friday, July 18, except on Monday, July 7.   Crews will close some northbound I-5 lanes from I-8 to just north of Sea World Drive on July 8-11 for restriping and again on July 14-15 to place temporary K-rail barriers on the left shoulder.  Daytime work will take place behind the barriers, leaving the freeway lanes open during commute hours.  With the temporary restriping, the painted lines will no longer match the cut seams in pavement.  Motorists should be advised that the lanes will look different and they should follow the striping.

The work is part of construction on the $24 million I-5/I-8 Connector Project which will add a lane on westbound I-8 at the connector ramp to northbound I-5 and add a northbound lane and auxiliary lane on I-5 from the interchange north to Sea World Drive.  The project is scheduled to be completed in the summer of 2016.

More information about the project can be found at the Caltrans website, http://www.dot.ca.gov/dist11/facts/index.htm.
