January 14, 2018 (Ramona) -- A dedication ceremony for the “Hiking on Mount Woodson” mural will be held on Saturday, January 27 beginning at 10:00 a.m. at the Ramona Fitness Center at 558 Main Street, Ramona. The public is invited to attend. In addition to refreshments, attendees will receive a picture of the mural, autographed by the artist.
This is the 16th Ramona mural sponsored by the Ramona H.E.A.R.T. Mural Project, a 501 (c)(3) non-profit corporation.
At 12 feet X 70 feet, the expansive mural depicts Mount Woodson as a destination for hikers who travel from around the world to appreciate the incredible views and large boulders unique to the terrain. Many hikers make it a goal to reach the top so they can take photographs of themselves on “Potato Chip Rock,” a thin outcrop resembling a potato chip that looks like it will break off at any moment. Depicted in his mural below Mt. Woodson, the artist projects his vision of a likely panorama of far-reaching vineyards that he foresees in the fast-growing wine-making industry in the Ramona valley.
The artist, Rik Erickson, is a licensed, professional mural artist and painter who has been painting custom, high quality wall murals for clients for more than 25 years. He is the artist who painted the “Verlaque Pioneer Store” mural at 629 Main St., Ramona, CA at Reds, Whites & Brews next to the Guy B. Woodward Museum. He also painted the “Firehouse Mural” at the site of the original Ramona firehouse at 222 Ninth Street, Ramona CA. All his murals can be seen at www.muralsfantastic.com.
As with all Ramona mural projects, viewers will be challenged to discover the “heart” icons in a “Where’s Waldo” exercise. The artist has painted five hidden hearts and five animals (some hidden) in the Mt. Woodson mural.
Donations to help pay for the murals projects can be made on the website at http://ramonamurals.com. Donations of $100 or more will be listed on the website and on a plaque on the building. The Ramona H.E.A.R.T. Mural Project is a 501 (c)(3) non-profit corporation.
The main goal of the Ramona H.E.A.R.T. Murals Project is to create a reason for those passing tourists to STOP to enjoy Ramona’s beauty, charm, character and heritage, and to rest a spell. In addition to the murals on the walls of buildings, the H.E.A.R.T. Murals Project recently announced the Utility Box Project. Artists will be painting utility boxes throughout Ramona along Main Street beginning this spring.
The acronym, H.E.A.R.T. not only indicates Ramona as the geographic center of San Diego County, but reflects the character of the community. “H” for Historic and Hiking, “E” for Equine, “A” for Arts, Antiques and Agriculture, “R” for scenic rural vistas and drives, and “T” for Tasting of fine wines.
