July 19, 2018 (Ramona) – A driver who reported his vehicle had been stolen at gunpoint has been arrested for filing a false report to conceal his involvement in a crash in Ramona.

According to Sgt. Jeremy Sheppard with the Sheriff’s department, Luis Solis, 19 and with a juvenile passenger have been charged with filing the false report after the Toyota Forerunner that Solis was driving rolled over at 630 Gem Lane in Ramona.

The report claimed that a Hispanic male had stolen the vehicle at gunpoint, crashed it and fled the area on foot. This prompted deputies and CHP officers to set up a perimeter and search the area along with a Sheriff’s ASTREA helicopter and several canine officers.

After an hour, it was determined that the report was false.  Meanwhile a vehicle with two Hispanic males and two Hispanic females drove through the search area.  Deputies checking to see if the occupants were related to the incident found one female in possession of heroin and another had an active felony warrant for assault on a peace officer.

Teresa Solis, 55, and Margarita Ochoa, 20, were arrested and booked into the Sheriff’s Las Colinas Detention facility.
