February 15, 2018 (San Diego’s East County) – Jason and Darinka Viau of East County are among 93 couples married on Valentine’s Day at County facilities.

They are planning a bigger wedding and reception in Mexico later in the year. Jason Viau said a few weeks ago, he decided he didn’t want to wait any longer to make Darinka his bride and suggested a Valentine’s Day wedding at Waterfront Park. She said yes.

The majority of ceremonies were performed at the County Administration Center and surrounding Waterfront Park downtown. Others were split among the office’s locations in San Marcos, El Cajon, Chula Vista and Kearny Mesa.

Couples were encouraged to make reservations in advance, but walk-in marriages were also being accommodated until 5 p.m.

“We’ll stay and people will work after 5,” said Assessor-Recorder-County Clerk Ernest Dronenburg said early in the day. “If they get here before 5, we’ll make sure they leave married.”

Another couple, Kelvin Jocosing and Jelline Ileto of San Diego decided today was the day. Jocosing said they just felt they were ready to get married. The couple who attend college said they had classes to attend in the afternoon, but they were going to celebrate their wedding on Saturday.

Kelvin and Jelline Jocosing were married on Valentine’s Day at Waterfront Park.

Estella and Felipe Salvidar of San Diego said they chose Valentine’s Day to get married because it was a romantic day. Felipe Saldivar said they also decided to get married “because we love each other so much.” They both feel they found the perfect partner in each other and Estella Saldivar added, that they had a baby girl, Emma, who served as her bouquet.

Abigain Martinez and Jaime Beltran of Imperial Beach were married on Valentine’s Day by County employee Erica Salmeron, who works in the marriage office and just happens to be Beltran’s cousin. Salmeron said being able to officiate at their wedding was special to her because they are a wonderful couple, and it was special for them as well.

More information about marriage services is available on the Assessor/Recorder/Clerk’s website.  Also, County Parks offers many great locations to hold weddings. Learn more
