February 9, 2023 (Spring Valley) - CIF Playoffs for girls water polo are upon us and tonight, the lady Cougars of Steele Canyon stayed in their home water and hosted the Jaguars of Valley Center.

Both teams got some early chances, but it was the Jaguars who came away with a first quarter lead, up 2-0 after one.

The Jags scored again in the second, once on a rebound after a great save from Steele Canyon’s keeper.  VC added to their lead and went to the locker room with a nice 5-0 lead.

The Cougs’ keeper made some great stops in the third, but the onslaught of the Jags was too much.  HOWEVER, the Cougars did tally two and get their water legs (literally!).  A relatively long third quarter allowed Steele to get on the board, but the Jaguars stayed ahead, leading 9-2 after three.

The Jags only added some slight padding to their lead in the fourth, but it was enough to end the Cougars’ season.  Steele did score twice on a nice corner shot and on a penalty shot and then add one more, but they will ultimately lose 11-5.  Valley Center moves on to play Eastlake on Saturday.
