September 8, 2023 (Ramona) - Poway and Ramona is always an epic battle and for week four, ECM Sports headed up to the Valley of the Sun, where the Titans and undefeated Bulldogs clashed on Pop Warner Night in Ramona.

The Bulldogs marched straight downfield with brothers Adrian and Atticus Enriquez leading the charge, along with senior Kyle Patenaude.  But the boys let sophomore quarterback Atticus have the honors with a 10-yard keeper.  Big brother senior Adrian got a chance to shine a few minutes later with a smooth shake n bake 15 yard carry for another score.  Poway sophomore back Luke Jorgensen finally got his reward with two minutes left in the quarter with a rushing touchdown.  Adrian just laughed at him and said “it took you three plays and five yards to score?  I can do it in one play and 76 yards” and that’s what he did:  capped off a 76 yard rushing touchdown on the first play of the Dawgs’ next drive and Ramona led 21-7 after one.

Junior kicker Tyler Hughes tried to help Poway in the second with a 23-yard field goal and with one minute left, another Ty, junior quarterback Ty Hurst, nearly evaporated the Dawgs’ 11-point lead with a quarterback sneak at the one and Ramona hung by a 21-17 thread at halftime.

Hughes cut the Bulldog lead to one with a 39 yard field goal in the third.  That’s when Jamil Kassab decided to remind us that he still goes to Ramona and oh yeah, he’s definitely still clutch.  The senior leaped for the catch in the endzone to give the Dawgs some breathing room with a 28-20 lead after three.

But it didn’t last long.  Hurst snuck in for a score and then lobbed a sweet two-point conversion pass and we were all tied up for the first time since the game began.  Four quarters ended up not being enough, despite two touchdowns from Poway being robbed by penalties, and for the first time in ECM Friday Night Lights history, we were headed to overtime.

We didn’t have to wait long because Adrian did it all by himself, running from the 25 yard line into the endzone in five plays, but the extra point was blocked and it was Poway junior Jake Tsay who was the hero with the five yard run.  Hughes’ extra point was good and the Titans handed Ramona their first loss of the season with a clutch 35-34 win.
