Hero customer rushes Waffle House killer and rips away his assault-style weapon (CNN)

As soon as gunshots tore through a Waffle House, James Shaw Jr. bolted and hid in a restroom. But he kept an eye and an ear out for the gunman. And the moment the shooter paused, Shaw decided to ambush him.  That heroic act by a customer saved countless lives at a Nashville-area Waffle House…Shaw "is the hero here, and no doubt he saved many lives by wrestling the gun away and then tossing it over the counter and prompting the (gun)man to leave," the police spokesman said.

Friends or not, France’s Macron challenges Trump in Congress speech (Reuters)

A day after flaunting his friendship with Donald Trump, French President Emmanuel Macron forcefully challenged many of the U.S. president’s policies on Wednesday, urging the United States to engage more with the world, step up the fight against climate change and stay in the Iran nuclear pact for now.

FAA orders inspections of engines like one in deadly Southwest incident (CBS)

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has ordered emergency inspections of jet engines like the one in this week's fatal Southwest Airlines accident. The agency said its order affects 352 engines in the U.S. and another 681 worldwide on "new generation" Boeing 737 jets. Each aircraft has two engines.

Kobach held in contempt in voter registration case (The Hill)

A federal judge held Kansas Secretary of State Kris Kobach (R) in contempt on Wednesday for repeatedly skirting court orders related to a blocked state voter registration law…Kobach, a candidate for Kansas governor and a former vice-chair of President Trump's voter fraud commission, is among the most ardent advocates for laws tightening voter registration processes. Opponents of such laws argue that they unnecessarily restrict people, particularly minority voters, from casting ballots, and have failed to prove that voter fraud is a widespread problem.

Supreme Court considers power of agency judges and who should appoint them (Jewish World Review)

The court is considering whether administrative law judges, like the one in Lucia's case, are simply employees of the agency, or as Lucia contends, should be considered officers of the United States, as defined by the Constitution. That would mean appointment by either the president, the courts, or heads of departments.

North Korea says it will stop nuclear tests, scrap test site (Reuters)

North Korea said on Saturday it would immediately suspend nuclear and missile tests, scrap its nuclear test site and instead pursue economic growth and peace, ahead of planned summits with South Korea and the United States. North Korean leader Kim Jong Un said his country no longer needed to conduct nuclear tests or intercontinental ballistic missile tests because it had completed its goal of developing the weapons, the state-run Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) said.

Trump and France's Macron seek new measures on Iran as deadline looms   (Reuters)

-U.S. President Donald Trump and French President Emmanuel Macron pledged on Tuesday to seek stronger measures to contain Iran, but Trump refrained from committing to staying in a 2015 nuclear deal and threatened Tehran with retaliation if it restarted its nuclear program.

Busloads of migrants from 'caravan' arrive at U.S.-Mexico border (Reuters)

Dozens of Central American migrants from about 600 traveling in a “caravan” through Mexico arrived at the border city of Tijuana late on Tuesday despite warnings it would be futile to try to cross to claim asylum in the United States.
