Mauritius is a suspenseful, comedy-drama where postage stamps are the catalyst for a variety of disreputable shenanigans. The plot is about two half-sisters, Mary and Jackie, whose mother's death leaves them in possession of a rare stamp collection that might be worth a fortune. The characters are willing to bully, connive, cheat, and, if all else fails, conduct a legitimate business transaction, to gain control of the rarest of prizes.

In the fast-paced, hard-driving world of stamp collecting, there is no little square of paper more valuable than the Mauritius Post Office. In 1839, the government of the island paradise of Mauritius, just off the east coast of Madagascar, issued a one-penny and two-penny stamp with the likeness of Queen Elizabeth in the center with the words "Post Office" engraved along the edge.  However, the words should have read "Post Paid." The Mauritius Post Office stamps, of which only a few survive in mint condition, are considered the crown of any stamp collection. But which sister actually owns the stamps? Which of three dealers can be trusted with their sale?

The play is directed by Steve Schmitz, Grossmont College Theatre Arts faculty member. It was written by Theresa Rebeck, a Pulitzer Prize for Drama nominee. It opened on Broadway in October 2007. The production earned Bobby Cannavale a Tony Award nomination for best performance by a featured actor in a play.

The box office will open one hour prior to all performances. All major credit cards are accepted. Grossmont College is located at 8800 Grossmont College Dr., in El Cajon. For driving directions and a campus map, visit www.grossmont.edu.
