East County News Service

October 2, 2023 (Santee) -- – Flocktober is upon us and Hawthorne Country Store invites San Diegans to ‘Meet the Flockers,’ Saturday, Oct. 7 at all three of its locations in Escondido, Fallbrook, and Santee.

Many families continue to enjoy a peek into the homesteading lifestyle through backyard chickens. Learning about these little peeps and bigger cluckers is enjoyable, educational and offers a glimpse into connecting with our food.

Chickens are “pets with benefits” and the many benefits include producing protein, recycling waste, and creating fertilizer. Hawthorne Country Store has a core belief of maintaining, teaching, and supporting homesteading skills. The event allows guests to meet their team of Flockers and learn about chicken care and pick out new “chickies” for the family.

The products and chickies will be available 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at all three stores. Addresses are:

  • Escondido: 675 W. Grand Avenue, Escondido (92025)
  • Fallbrook: 2762 S. Mission Road, Fallbrook (92028)
  • Santee: 10845 Woodside Avenue, Santee (92071)

Interested guests should “Like” Hawthorne Country Store on Facebook to get updates on new breeds available and join their newsletter for specials and upcoming events.

Hawthorne Country Store is committed to education. With each event, the store aims to educate guests on trends and popular issues in the homesteading space. Free educational videos are available on the YouTube channel, including a “Chick 101” video
