November 20, 2023 (Lakeside) -- In 2017, husband and wife Jose Ortiz and Claudia Ortiz purchased the Lakeside Cafe in Lakeside, offering home-cooked breakfasts and lunches. Since 2018, they have generously given complete Thanksgiving meals to people in need each year. But this season, they have received more requests than they can accommodate. So, they are asking help from the community for donations.

ECM met this family at their business and found the Ortizes to be gracious, with a deep love for Lakeside.

“I pray for guidance in selection of the recipients and how we can provide,“ commented Claudia Ortiz.

"We wish we can provide a meal for all those who applied, “ remarked Jose Ortiz.

The Ortiz Family wishes to thank Lakeside and the greater community for their support in making this charitable program successful for the last five years. This restaurant family also encourages other businesses to reach out during this holiday season, as there is a large need for many families struggling with lack of food on their table, inflation and unemployment.

For those wishing to contribute, all funds will be used to meet the waiting list for the Lakeside Cafe Thanksgiving, a prepared meal for pickup that will feed a family of five to six people.

Mrs. Ortiz teared up when questioned about  how this started. “We fell in love with the Lakeside community. We are blessed to be here and the support we have received means so much to us,  “Mrs. Ortiz remarked.

Donations can be made through Venmo, or by check or cash in person.
