September 5, 2023 (Ramona) – A head-on crash in Ramona early yesterday morning proved deadly for one driver, but the other survived with non-threatening injuries. Both young drivers were residents of Ramona. The difference? The motorist who survived was wearing a seatbelt, while the other was not.

The crash occurred around 3:41 a.m. on State Route 67 near Boortz Lane.  The 23-year-old man driving a Volkswagen Jetta northbound at an unknown speed crossed the double yellow lines, crashing head-on into a 2019 Toyota Camry. The Camry driver, a 20-year-old woman, was transported by ambulance to Palomar Medical Center. The Volkswagen driver died at the scene.

The California Highway Patrol is investigating the collision.  “This is an ongoing investigation and it is unknown at this time if alcohol and/or drugs were a factor in this crash,” says Officer Jared Grieshaber.
