July 9, 2012 (San Diego’s East County)—Effective immediately, Cal Fire has issued a no-burn proclamation for all state responsibility lands in San Diego and Imperial Counties. All open burning is banned and campfires are restricted to designated campfire facilities in established public campgrounds.
The order was issued by Kelly Zombro, Deputy Chief at Cal Fire, due to “extreme menace” of wildfire danger due to dry vegetation and critical fire weather, as well as by fire suppression forces heavily committed to control fires.
State rangers or authorized California Forestry and Fire Protection (Cal Fire) agents can issue restricted temporary burning permits if needed for reasons of public health, safety or welfare.
