September 21, 2015 (El Cajon)--Michael Wayne Morse was sentenced to 12 years in prison after pleading guilty to manslaughter and elder abuse in connection with the killing of his mother in 2013.
Morse, 51, was charged in 2014 with murdering his mother, Louise. She was an invalid and living with her son at her home on Arly Court in Santee at the time of her death.
“The cause of her death was from complications from elder abuse,” said San Diego County Assistant Attorney C.J. Mody. “She was severely injured when the autopsy was performed. There were bruises all over her body, and fractured ribs.”
Louise Morse, 73, who suffered a stroke about a year previously, died Oct. 19, 2013 at her home. Sheriff’s deputies arrested Morse at the Arly Court address Sept. 3. He was later charged with one count of murder.
Under the sentence rendered by Judge David Goldstein on Sept. 21, Morse was given 12 years for two felony counts he pleaded guilty to, and given credit for 441 days served.
He had been facing 15 years to life on the second degree murder charge alone, Mody said. “We felt this was a just resolution in this case,” he said.
