CONSTRUCTION BEGINS ON SKYLINE CHURCH WORSHIP CENTER

December 13, 2010 (La Mesa) -- State Senator-elect Joel Anderson, County Supervisor Diane Jacobs and other community leaders will join Skyline Church this Wednesday, December 15, at 10 a.m. to celebrate the start of construction for a new Worship Center at Skyline Church in La Mesa.

The new $10.8 million, 58,700 square foot building, to be completed January 2012, is being built by Hamann Construction. It will feature a worship auditorium with a capacity of 2500 seats, 200 seat traditional chapel, café and multipurpose room / gymnasium.

Senior Pastor Jim Garlow expressed gratitude that the project will also help provide jobs in the community during this challenging economy. “We trust that businesses will see growth as building materials are purchased, equipment is used and people once again become meaningfully employed,” he added.

According to a press release issued by Skyline, the church has served families in East County for past 56 years through its child development center, Skyline food pantry, disaster preparedness efforts, assistance to wildfire victims, as well as partnerships with the San Diego Rescue Mission, Sonshine Haven, and Rescue Task Force (military family support), Garlow noted. Skyline provides programs for the prevention of abuse and addictions, as well as family-friendly events at Halloween and Christmas, and a 5k Mud Run. Skyline partnered with Ronald McDonald Children’s Charities and and others to build the Polinsky Children’s Center for abused children and recently partnered with Supervisor Dianne Jacob’s office and local law enforcement agencies to provide diversion programs for juveniles picked up during curfew sweeps.
