Dear Maryanne,
My mother and I purchased a home in Lemon Grove last year and it has been very quiet until recently. There is a lot of construction going on lately and the cars are being diverted past our home. We are now interested in finding solutions to creating a quiet and peaceful environment without moving.

Dear Thelma and Joy,
Here are a few ideas that may help you reclaim your peaceful home.
- Consider replacing your windows with double or triple pane glass. (This may also help with your energy costs. too.)
- Weather strip interior doors. (This may help with energy costs too.)
- Hang a tapestry or woven rug. Fabrics help to reduce noise.
- Consider replacing hollow interior doors with solid wood doors.
- Weather strip your windows.
- Paint your rooms with sound-absorbing paints. Inquire about this at Home Depot or Lowes.
- Install bookcases with lots of books. The books act as a noise buffer.
- Landscaping barriers such as hedges, or a decorative wall, can absorb sound.
