June 9,2024 (San Diego’s East County )-- As we head into the summer months, there is increased potential for hot temperatures and strong winds in San Diego County. It is crucial for us to be ready for potential wildfires. East County is especially prone to wildfires, so each of us has an individual responsibility to prepare ahead of time and be ready to evacuate.
Supervisor Joel Anderson and his staff have have compiled a comprehensive list of online resources to aid in our collective efforts to safeguard you, your families, and our community.
“I want to express my deepest gratitude to the firefighters, emergency responders, and disaster personnel who dedicate themselves to protecting our community,” Anderson says. “My constituents consistently share that fire prevention and fire response is a top priority for them. With your help advocating for investments from the County Board of Supervisors, we have successfully taken the following proactive steps to protect our communities:
- Approved the acquisition of a $16 million twin-engine helicopter, equipped to combat fires during nighttime operations, bolstering our firefighting capabilities.
- Protected 200 miles of critical evacuation corridors in the County using an innovative and environmentally safe fire retardant.
- Co-authored an initiative granting ranchers and farmers the ability to safely return to their properties post-evacuation, ensuring the welfare of their animals and crops using "AG-PASS".
- Secured approvals for the placement of new Heli-hydrants and Helo-pods to support our region's aerial firefighting helicopters, enhancing our firefighting infrastructure.
