October 14, 2017 (San Diego) - The 6-0 Aztecs hosted Boise State at SDCCU Stadium this week, continuing Mountain West play.

After both teams took a few three-and-outs in the first quarter, the Broncos struck first on a 53-yard punt return touchdown by redshirt freshman Avery Williams.  Boise State made it a two-score game when the Broncos defense sacked junior quarterback Christian Chapman, making him drop the ball on a backwards pass.  Freshman Kekaula Kaniho picked it up and ran it back for the score.  The Aztecs were no match for Boise State’s unstoppable defense and the Broncos led 14-0 after one.

The Broncos added one more touchdown before the half was over on junior Brett Rypien’s pass to redshirt senior tight end Jake Roh and the Broncos led 21-0 at the half.

The Aztecs finally got on the board towards the end of the third when Chapman aired it long, probably thinking it couldn’t get any worse, to junior transfer Fred Trevillion, who took it all the way downfield to put SDSU on the board.  Boise State led 21-7 after three.

Redshirt junior Boise State kicker Haden Hoggarth added three to start the fourth quarter, but the Aztecs kept plugging away with a smooth touchdown run by senior Rashaad Penny.  But the Aztecs giveth and the Aztecs taketh away.  The Broncos pushed downfield to the goal line and sophomore running back Alexander Mattison pinched it in for the score and that sealed the deal for Boise State, who wins 31-14 to hand SDSU their first loss of the season.  The Aztecs fall to 2-1 in league play and 6-1 overall.

The Aztecs stay home next week to host Fresno State.  Kick is at 7:30 p.m.
