October 29, 2023 (San Diego) - The Aztec men’s soccer team (6-4-5, 0-4-3) played Washington (5-6-6, 2-4-3) to a 1-1 draw at the SDSU Sports Deck Sunday afternoon.

SDSU struck first on a Jules Anderson goal in the 23rd minute but then saw the Huskies score on a corner just 16 seconds into the second half.

“A frustrating result where we let two points slip through our grasp,” Head coach Ryan Hopkins said after the match.

Anderson’s goal was assisted by Rommee Jaridly. Anderson weaved through a couple UW defenders then launched a rocket from 22 yards out that went up and over the outstretched arms of the Husky goalkeeper.

“That was a brilliant call from Jules,” Hopkins explained. “He has been playing really well of late.”

After the teams combined for six shots total in the first half, the match opened up in the early stages of the second half with eight total shots in the first 15 minutes of the second frame.

The Huskies’ goal followed a corner where Nick O’Brien played it short to Imanol Rosales who then crossed it into the box where Nate Jones headed it in.

The Aztecs outshot UW 10-8, but the Huskies had seven shots on goal to SDSU’s five.

For the second game in a row, Aztec goalkeeper Logan Erb had six saves which is a career-high.
