April 15, 2017 (Long Beach) - San Diego State track & field has a pair of new entries in the program’s record book after a successful end to the Beach Invitational hosted by Long Beach State on Saturday.

SDSU’s day started off on the right foot with a win in the 4x100-meter relay. Anchored by senior Starlynn Singleton, classmate Micha Auzenne and juniors Simone Glenn and Rochene Smith sprinted to the second-fastest mark in program history at 44.03. That time is the fastest in the Mountain West this season and the 11th-fastest time in NCAA Division I this year.

The Scarlet and Black had a strong showing in the pole vault, led by junior Bonnie Draxler. She was just half of an inch out of the program record mark of 14.03.75 with her 14.03.25 vault, a collegiate best, and the second best in SDSU history. The fourth-place mark is the conference’s longest this season, and NCAA Division I’s ninth-longest mark. Sophomore Marissa Berry tied for ninth (13-03.50). Also competing were junior Sara Curran (11-09.75, 36th), freshman Rachel Craft (11-09.75, T-43rd), freshman Taylor Alexander (collegiate-best 11-03.75, T-54th) and senior Katherine Magill (10-10.00, T-67th).

In the 200, SDSU took three of the top four spots, paced by junior Ashley Henderson. Her 22.89 time was the 10th fastest in NCAA Division I this season. Glenn clocked in at 23.18 to take silver, while Smith placed fourth, tying her collegiate-best time of 23.79. Sophomore Lisa-Anne Barrow handily set a new collegiate best at 24.06 (previously 24.69), taking 11th, and Singleton also raced to the best time of her collegiate career at 24.08 (previously 24.45), finishing 12th.

Making her collegiate debut in the event, freshman Andrenette Knight won the 400-meter hurdles, crossing the finish line in 59.04. Junior Jasmine Young crossed the finish line in a collegiate-best 1:02.17, placing 14th.

The 100-meter dash saw a pair of Aztecs finish in the top five and set collegiate-best times. Glenn’s 11.46 collegiate best put her second, while Auzenne was fifth with a collegiate-record 11.54. Smith was 10th with an 11.77 time.

San Diego State had another top five finish in the 4x400-meter relay. Lakin Hatcher, Glenn, Knight and Tyra Lea finished the relay in 3:43.63 for fourth place.

Up next for the Scarlet and Black is the Triton Invitational, hosted by UC San Diego. The two-day meet will be held on Fri., April 21 and Sat., April 22.
