December 7, 2023 (San Diego) - The Aztec women’s basketball team (6-4) knocked off San Diego (3-6) 67-63 inside the Jenny Craig Pavilion Thursday evening.

“I’m really proud of the team tonight,” Head coach Stacie Terry-Hutson said after the game. “This is the epitome of a team win. We’re sick and hurt and we battled tonight against a very good team that is so tough.”

 

Adryana Quezada once again led the Aztecs with 18 points and nine rebounds while Abby Prohaska had 13 points. Kim Villalobos chipped in nine points and five assists.

 

The Aztecs jumped out an 11-2 lead and shot 50 percent from the floor in the first quarter. The Toreros responded in the second quarter with a 13-3 run to take the lead.

 

The Toreros’ Veronica Sheffey had 19 points and five assists in the first half. That coupled with seven SDSU turnovers enabled USD to hold a 38-35 lead at the halftime break.

 

The Aztecs would fall behind by as much as seven points and trail by three entering the fourth. SDSU then got hot, making six of their first shots in the final quarter and held off the Toreros down the stretch.
