February 15, 2022 (Rancho Santa Fe) - The Aztecs finished the Lamkin Invitational Tuesday afternoon, placing 10th in a loaded field that featured nine ranked teams. Freshman Anika Sato was SDSU’s top finisher, tying for 12th with a 222 (+6). Sara Kjellker finished one stroke behind her, placing 15th.

The Aztecs wrapped up their second round early Tuesday, playing out their final two holes. Sara Kjellker had a team-best 73 (+1) and was followed by Anika Sato, Esti Garcia Rubio and Bernice Olivarez Ilas who all shot a 74 (+2). Garcia Rubio, who is playing as an individual, also shot a 74 in her first round.

SDSU was in seventh place after the second round. Dealing with wind and rain, scores rose across the board in the third and final round. Three Aztecs tied for SDSU’s best 18: Sato, Kjellker and Olivarez Ilas who all shot a 77 (+5). Anna Lina Otten had four of the team’s eight birdies but also had a team-high 10 bogeys and finished with an 80 (+8).

Sammy Lee also was over 80, finishing with a 81 (+9), while Esti Garcia Rubio (84, +12) and April Ranches (82, +10), who were playing as individuals, also struggled with the difficult conditions.

No. 12 San Jose State won first finishing with an 873, nine-over-par, while No. 1 Stanford placed second with an 876 (+12). Rachel Heck of Stanford won the individual title finishing with a 211 (-5), including an impressive 68 in the third round where the average score was 78. Arizona State’s Ashley Menne was the runner-up and shot a 214 (-2).
