April 12, 2011 (San Diego) – Marcos Manual Rodriguez Perez, 26, was captured and taken into custody today in Tijuana. The director of Tijuana Municipal Police, in a prepared statement, identified Perez as the killer of U.S. Border Patrol Agent Robert Rosas Jr, who was killed in an ambush near Campo in July 2009.

Authorities believe three men were responsible for Rosa’s death. One is still at large. The third man, Christian Daniel Castrol Alvaraez, 17, of Mexico pled guilty for his part in the crime. Alvarez was sentence in April 2010 to 40 years in prison.

Rosa’s body was found about 10 yards from the border fence. The three men reportedly lured him there with footprints and noises, for the intent of robbing him. He called for backup but was shot to death while investigating, before the backup arrived.

He left behind a wife, two-year-old son, and 11-month old daughter.
