July 19, 2023 (San Diego) - Snapdragon Stadium has been chosen to host the 2023 National Women’s Soccer League Championship on November 11, the league announced Wednesday morning.

This will be the first time the championship will be held on the West Coast since 2018.

“We’re thrilled to have San Diego Wave FC as our host for this season’s championship match,” said NWSL Commissioner Jessica Berman. “With top-notch facilities, a passionate soccer community and a favorable coastal climate, San Diego sets the perfect stage for our marquee event.”

San Diego Wave President Jill Ellis said: “We are extremely proud and honored to have been selected to host the 2023 NWSL Championship game.”

“This gives us another significant opportunity to welcome the world’s game to San Diego,” Ellis said, “and we could not be prouder of our fans for embracing our club and creating the passionate atmosphere that is giving us the opportunity to bring this event to Snapdragon Stadium.”

Opened in August 2022, Snapdragon Stadium serves as the home of the Wave. When used for soccer-specific events, the venue seats 32,000 spectators.

Last September, San Diego played its inaugural home match on Sept. 18 in front of a sellout crowd of 32,000, breaking the league’s previous single-game attendance record.
