May 2, 2023 (Spring Valley) - On Saturday April 29th the Spring Valley Community Alliance (SVCA) put on its first annual Spring Valley Day with great attendance and lots of things to see and do once inside.

There was a very impressive array of food trucks serving all types of foods including Jamaican food, snow cones and pizza to name a few. Plenty of shopping from plants to T-shirts and a great stage with live entertainment.

In all “Spring Valley Day showcased 120 exhibitors, including non-profits, businesses, craft vendors, food trucks, County of San Diego services, elected officials and first responders. Many of the booths had fun giveaways and activities related to their businesses” said, Jen Althof, SVCA Communications ChairAlthof said, Spring Valley Day offered “free pony and carnival rides, an I Heart Spring Valley chalk mural, main stage performances including many solo and group musical acts, the Cars and Community car show, displays of first responder vehicles, and a game truck. There was a little bit of everything--from skateboard demos to dog adoptions to Kumeyaay Bird Singers--which encompassed the beauty and diversity of the community of Spring Valley.”

Christopher Pierce, SVCA Vice President said, the event was “spearheaded by the Spring Valley Community Alliance but it could not have happened without the support of the Spring Valley Chamber of Commerce, New Seasons Church, La Mesa - Spring Valley Schools, and the community. We all feel very passionate about providing opportunities for residents and families to come together and celebrate Spring Valley while also collaborating to build strong relationships in the community. We plan to make this an annual event, reoccurring on the last Saturday in April every year.”

The whole family was able to enjoy this carnival from the shopping to the entertainment. You could see the community was enjoying all that the event had to offer. Michelle Sanabria, SVCA Secretary told ECM, “The theme for Spring Valley Day was Celebrate Spring Valley. We reached out to local businesses, community organizations, and residents to reach as many people as possible to ensure individuals could participate in or attend a family friendly event close to home or work. Part of SVCA’s mission is to strengthen the community and we felt this was an opportunity to bring the community together and reiterate why Spring Valley is a great place to be.

When asked what the SVCA wanted to see going forward with Spring Valley Day Braulio Sanabria, SVCA President said, “We see Spring Valley Day growing into an event that exhibitors and the community look forward to each year as a tradition of community celebration and pride. We hope to continue the relaxed and positive atmosphere that welcomes all to this family friendly community event. We also look forward to building upon Spring Valley Day by increasing the number of vendors/exhibitors and adding new activities and elements.”
