March 27, 2016 (Santee) – Kenneth Ryan, 28, has been arrested on multiple felon assault charges and an outstanding robbery warrant after taking a woman hostage in Santee yesterday.

At 5:45 p.m., Santee Sheriff’s deputies responded to a report that a man had assaulted a female victim at 9061 Calle Del Verde in Santee and was not allowing her to leave the home. The man was reported to be a possible gang member who might be in possession of a handgun, said Sergeant Daniel Morsch.

Santee and Lakeside deputies set up a perimeter and evacuated several neighboring residents.

Calls to the victim’s cell phone were not answered. Deputies observed the suspect peek out of the rear of the residence several times but no firearm was observed.  The deputies established a rapport with the suspect and after about 30 minutes, convinced him to exit the residence. He was taken into custody without incident.

The victim was evaluated for injuries at the scene, but medical treatment was not needed. The evacuated residents returned to their homes about half an hour after the stand-off started.

“The victim corroborated there had been two assault incidents,” Sgt. Morsch stated. The first incident occurred earlier in the day in a car while on the State Route 125 freeway. The second incident occurred when the suspect forced entry into the residence in Santee.
