March 29, 2016 (San Diego) – Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump’s campaign manager, Corey Lewandowski, has been arrested and charged with  battery of a reporter.

Michelle Fields was representing Breitbart News, a conservative media outlet, at a Trump rally in Jupuiter, Florida on March 8th.  According to a police report, “Lewandowski then grabbed Fields’ left arm with his right hand, causing her to turn and step back.”

Trump’s campaign disputed the incident after the rally. In response, Fields released a photo on her Twitter account showing fingertip-shaped bruises on her arm.

Police released new video of the incident, concluding in the report, “Based on the above-described investigation, probable cause exists to charge Corey Lewandowski.”

The Trump campaign issued the following statement after the charges were filed against his campaign manager. “Mr. Lewandowski is absolutely innocent of this charge. He will enter a plea of not guilty and looks forward to his day in court. He is completely confident that he will be exonerated.”

ABC News reports that another member of the media, Ben Terris with the Washington Post, was an eyewitness to the alleged battery.  Terris confirmed, “I watched as a man with short-cropped hair and a suit grabbed her arm and yanked her out of the way. He was Corey Lewandowski, Trump’s 41-year-old campaign manager,” he stated, ABC reports.

Lewandowski is scheduled to appear in court on May 4th. If convicted on the misdemeanor charge, he could face up to a year in jail plus a $1,000 fine.
