November 8, 2011 (Lemon Grove)--A crew of 300 eager volunteers are expected to join with representatives from the Sheriff’s Lemon Grove substation on Saturday, November 19 to clean up the community for the holiday season.

"We're going to make our downtown sparkle,” said Jim Wiebolt, crime prevention specialist.

Volunteers wishing to lend a hand should meet at Fireman’s Park at 7 a.m. between Central Avenue and School Lane for refreshments. The clean up will take place from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.

“Community outreach is a top priority of the San Diego County Sheriff's Department. Reducing crime, making neighborhoods safer, and in general improving the quality of life for all of our
citizens can only be accomplished through partnerships and team efforts,” a press release issued by the Sheriff’s Department concludes, urging community members to “get involved and make a difference.”

Volunteers will be sweeping, picking up trash, painting curbs and removing graffiti in the 7000 to 8400 block of Broadway to clean up Downtown Lemon Grove for the holidays. A local recycling company will be providing cleaning tools, gloves, reflective vests and trash bags.

For more information or to RSVP, call Jim Wieboldt at (619) 337‐2039.
