January 3, 2015 (San Diego’s East County) – The U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) has announced that Whole Foods Market is voluntarily recalling Bleating Heart brand cheeses sold in California, Arizona and Hawaii.

The recall is due to possible contamination with Listeria monocytogenes, an organism that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, the elderly, and others with weak immune systems. It can also cause miscarriages and stillbirths in pregnant women, as well as illness in healthy individuals such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea.

If you purchased these products, you can return them to Whole Foods for a refund. The recall includes cut, wrapped and weighed sheep and cow cheeses by Bleating Heart.
