ECM PADRES REPORT: JOLLY ROGER RAISED OVER PADRES IN GAME ONE

June 27, 2023 (Pittsburgh) - The Padres got to get away from San Diego a bit and pay a visit to Pittsburgh.  Reiss Knehr started tonight’s game one against Rich Hill for the Pirates.

It started all right. Gary Sanchez singled in the second to score Manny Machado, Ha-Seong Kim singled to score two.  But from then on, the Buccos came back.  Ji-Hwan Bae hit a sac fly to score Jack Suwinski in the home half, Nick Gonzales tripled to score Rodolfo Castro, Andrew McCutchen singled to score Nick Gonzales and the Padres’ lead was cut to a 3-3 tie after two.

 

Carlos Santana and Suwinski hit solo homers in the third and the Bucs led 5-3 after three.

 

Henry Davis singled to score Austin Hedges in the fourth and the Pirates led 6-3 after four.

 

Nelson Cruz singled in the sixth to score Xander Bogaerts, but Santana singled to score McCutchen in the home half.  Castro singled to score Santana and Gonzales homered in the seventh and the Pirates defeated the Padres 9-4 in game one.

 

UP NEXT

 

Game two tomorrow is at 4:05 p.m.  Blake Snell starts against Mitch Keller for the Bucs.
