September 22, 2023 (San Diego) - After a day off, the Padres are hosting the Cardinals for the weekend.  Dakota Hudson started tonight’s game one for St. Louis against Matt Waldron.

Brett Sullivan singled in the second to score Trent Grisham and the Padres led 1-0 after one.

But Masyn Winn tied it in the sixth with a solo homer, but Manny Machado homered in the bottom of the sixth and the Padres retook the lead, 2-1 after six.

The Friars thought they were home free, but in the eighth, Jordan Walker lined a gapper double to right that scored Paul Goldschmidt, but Machado saved the day again with a towering blast to left and the Padres saved themselves with a 4-2 win in game one.
