April 23, 2017 (San Diego) - After losing last night’s short extra innings battle, the Padres tried to rebound again during today’s rubber match against the Marlins.  They also tried not to waste everyone’s time with extra innings.  Tom Koehler started on the mound against Luis Perdomo for the Padres.

As they still haven't learned their lesson, the Padres struck first and early.  Yangervis Solarte singled in the first to score Manuel Margot for a 1-0 lead.

They may not have learned their lesson, but they learned what they had to do to expand upon it.  Hunter Renfroe hit a two-run homer in the fourth and the Padres led 3-0.

The Marlins got on board in the sixth when Giancarlo Stanton singled to score Martin Prado.  The Padres still led 3-1.  Marcell Ozuna doubled to score Christian Yelich and J.T. Realmuto knocked a base hit into left to score Stanton and the game was tied at three.  So, the Padres still have not learned their lesson about scoring early.  Justin Bour made sure they knew it with a three-run blast and the Marlins jumped out in front 6-3.

Yelich added one more in the ninth on a sac fly and the Marlins won the game 7-3 and the series 2-1.

The Padres are out on the road again for another battle with the Diamondbacks, this time for four games.  First pitch is tomorrow at 6:40 p.m. with Jhoulys Chacin on the mound for the Padres against Zack Greinke for the snakes.

Transaction news:

  • Luis Perdomo reinstated from 10-day DL
  • Zach Lee optioned to El Paso
