July 4, 2023 (San Diego) - The Padres celebrate the Fourth of July by winning the night before.  Now they needed to take the series today.  Shohei Ohtani started for the Angels against Grossmont High alum Joe Musgrove.

Jake Cronenworth hit a two-RBI double in the fourth, but Hunter Renfroe cut it in half with a solo homer in the fifth and the Padres led 2-1 after five.

Cronenworth and Xander Bogaerts both hit homers in the sixth and the Padres led 5-1 after six.

Manny Machado grounded a single up the middle in the seventh to score Ha-Seong Kim.  Bogaerts lined a single to right to score Juan Soto and the Padres led 7-1 after seven.

Rougned Odor scored in the eighth and the Padres led 8-1 after eight.

Jo Adell tried to start a rally in the ninth with a triple that scored Taylor Ward.  Eduardo Escobar hit a sac fly to center to score Adell.  With the bases loaded, Josh Hader walked Chad Wallach, who scored Mike Moustakas from third.  Mickey Moniak walked and scored Hunter Renfroe, but the Padres avoided further damage and took the series with an 8-5 win.
