ECM PADRES REPORT: PADRES VICTORIOUS ON LAST DAY OF SPRING TRAINING

March 27, 2023 (Peoria, Ariz.) - Finally, the last spring training game before Opening Day.  The Mariners hosted the Padres in both teams’ own spring training facility.  Seth Lugo started against Marco Gonzales for Seattle.

Xander Bogaerts kicked things off in the third with a two-RBI double, but the Mariners tied it up on a Julio Rodríguez single that scored Sam Haggerty.  Kolten Wong singled to score Tanner Kirwer and we were tied at two after three.

 
Matt Carpenter reclaimed the lead for the Padres in the fourth to score Austin Nola and the Friars led 3-2 after four.
 
Pedro Castellano singled in the eighth to score Ripken Reyes and the Padres soundly defeated the Mariners on the last day of spring training 4-2.
 
UP NEXT
 
We made it to Opening Day!  It’s Thursday at 1:10 p.m. against the Rockies.  German Marquez starts for Colorado against Blake Snell.
