September 11, 2023 (Los Angeles) - The Padres should probably be grateful they’re away from Houston.  The bad news is they’re in L.A. now facing the first-place Dodgers.  Pedro Avila started tonight’s game one against Gavin Stone for L.A.

Juan Soto singled in the first to score Ha-Seong Kim, but Mookie Betts drove a deep homer to left in the bottom of the first and we were tied at one after one.

With the bases loaded in the second, Avila hit Miguel Rojas, allowing J.D. Martinez to score from third, but the Padres shockingly stopped the bleeding and the Dodgers led 2-1 after two.

Matthew Batten tied the game again in the third, only to have Max Muncy give the Dodgers the go-ahead in the home half with a solo blast to left.  Chris Taylor singled to right to score Martinez.  Betts broke the game open with a three-RBI double and L.A. led 7-2 after three.

Manny Machado didn’t give up.  He homered to left center in the fourth.  Xander Bogaerts scored and the Dodgers led 7-4 after four.

Machado hit a two-run blast to right in the sixth to get the Padres to within one and the game was tied on Batten’s double that scored Jurickson Profar and we were tied at seven after six.

Soto broke the tie in the ninth with a three-run bomb and Bogaerts hit a solo homer the Padres did the unthinkable:  practically walk off a game one with a 11-8 win (Martinez singled in the ninth to score Freddie Freeman).
