June 9, 2023 (Denver) - The Padres took off for a weekend in Colorado. Yu Darvish started tonight’s game one against Austin Gomber for the Rockies.
Manny Machado kicked things off in the first with a two-run homer. Jake Cronenworth singled and the Padres led 3-0 after one.
Trent Grisham and Gary Sanchez homered in the second, while Ezequiel Tovar singled in the third and the Padres led 6-1 after three.
Ha-Seong Kim singled in the fifth to score Xander Bogaerts and the Padres led 7-1 after five.
Fernando Tatis Jr. added on with a solo homer in the sixth, but in the home half, the Rockies started getting to Yu. Randal Grichuk doubled to left to score Ryan McMahon and Darvish’s night was done. He was replaced by Tom Cosgrove, who gave up a two-RBI double to right to Elehuris Montero and the Padres led 8-4 after six.
Brandon Dixon homered to center in the seventh, but Mike Moustakas homered for two in the eighth, but the Padres prevailed and got the 9-6 win to open the series.
