ECM PADRES REPORT: VICTORY ON THE SOUTH SIDE

September 29, 2023 (Chicago) - For the last series of the season, the Padres get to spend a weekend in Chicago playing the White Sox.  Nick Martinez started against Dylan Cease for the Chisox.

Xander Bogaerts finally broke the tie in the fifth with a sac fly that scored Matthew Batten and the Padres led 1-0 after five.

 

Trent Grisham doubled in the sixth to score two and the Padres led 3-0 after six.

 

Yoan Moncada hit a solo homer in the eighth and Carlos Perez hit his first major league knock in the ninth, but the Padres avoided danger and got back to .500 with a 3-2 win.

Game two tomorrow is at 4:10 p.m.  Michael Wacha starts against ex-Padre Mike Clevinger for Chicago.
