Disney’s The Little Mermaid is a 1989 American animated musical fantasy film produced by Walt Disney Feature Animation and released by Walt Disney Pictures. The film is loosely based on the 1837 Danish fairy tale of the same name by Hans Christian Andersen. The story follows Ariel, a 16-year-old mermaid princess who longs to explore the world beyond the sea and falls in love with a human prince named Eric. The film was a commercial and critical success, grossing over $200 million worldwide and winning two Academy Awards.

In 2023, a live-action remake of the film was released, directed by Rob Marshall and starring Halle Bailey, Jonah Hauer-King, and Melissa McCarthy. The film follows the same storyline as the original animated film, with some minor changes. The film received mixed reviews from critics, but was praised for its visual effects and musical performances.
