August 15, 2016 (Tampa Bay) - The Padres have seen the Yankees and Blue Jays from the AL East this year.  The Rays will be their third, and like the Yankees, are another bottom-feeder in the AL East.  A perfect opponent for Luis Perdomo to start against Drew Smyly for the Rays.

Smyly wasn't smiling after he met Alexei Ramirez, who belted a solo homer in the first for a 1-0 Padres lead.

But he was soon smiling again.  With the bases loaded in the bottom of the first, Logan Morrison was hit by a pitch, scoring Kevin Kiermaier and the game was tied at one.

As the Padres saw in the second inning, the Rays have too many guys named Logan on their team.  The other Logan, Logan Forsythe, hit a two-run homer and the Rays took a 3-1 lead.

The first Logan doubled in the eighth, scoring Matt Duffy and the Rays added one more, 4-1.  A sac fly from the other Logan with the bases loaded drove in the first Logan and the score was 5-1.  Finally, a non-Logan drove in a run.  Kiermaier launched a three-run homer, his seventh of the season and the Rays took an 8-1 lead.

Yangervis Solarte hit a solo home run in the ninth to make the score 8-2, but the rally didn't even begin as the Rays take game one 8-2.

Game two is tomorrow at 4:10 p.m.
